Fear of Insanity or Psychosis. Is This Discussion For You?

One of the most common fears among people struggling with anxiety disorders is a fear of insanity or psychosis. This fear can convince you that you are very close to losing your sanity or experiencing a psychotic break. The experience of intense anxiety and the thoughts and sensations that come with that are often interpreted as strong enough to "break" you and cause permanent and/or severe psychological damage.

People with this fear will often fear specific outcomes like permanent memory loss, forgetting who their loved ones are, forgetting who they are, or completely losing touch with reality. Fear of psychiatric hospitalization is common in this situation.

An anxious person struggling with this fear will often spend a considerable amount of time checking themselves for signs of insanity or impending psychosis. They may be easily triggered by mentions of insanity or psychosis, stories about the mental health of others, or movies/TV shows that portray insanity or mental illiness.

If this sounds like you, you are not alone. This rountable discussion is focused squarely on this common fear and the problems it can cause.
